Halstead

I write again not knowing
If the letter that I wrote before has found you.

It's been months and there's been no reply.
The address is probably wrong, but I had to try.

I hope that you are well
And have love around you.

We heard from a friend of yours,
Someone that we don't know. She wrote a letter.

Her hand was very hard for us to read,
but we gathered you are well and not in need.

Even those few lines,
They made us feel better.

Looking back at our lives
I can't believe how good things were.
Do you recall the fun we had
When the six of us were young?

Everything has changed here.
Life goes on. I don't know why that should surprize me.

Nothing is the way that I recall.
Then at times it seem like nothing's changed at all.

Memories confuse
And paralyse me.

Did you think that when you left
Without a word, no hearts were broken?

It's been forever since you went away.
It seems so long, love makes it seem that way.

Is it too late to say
Words we should have spoken?

Looking back at our lives
I can see we should have been kinder.
But tell me, Halse, what did we know When the six of us were young?

Addison, I'm sure, regrets
The differences he had with you and now he
Wishes he could change the things he said,
And that you weren't gone, but here with us instead.

We could not see before
The things we now see.
Looking back at our lives
I thought we'd always be together.
We shared so much and were so close
When the six of us were young.

If somehow this letter find you,
Won't you write a line or two, or a dozen.

We watch the mail and hope that we shall find
A note from you, if you would be so kind.

Sincerely, and with love,
Theodora, your cousin.
